Newcastle United centre back Florian Lejeune is back kicking a football again just over a month after suffering a serious injury against Crystal Palace.

The Frenchman shared footage showing him kicking a ball while standing on a small trampoline, in a story post on his personal Instagram account.

The 27-year-old went down during the Magpies’ clash with Crystal Palace in early April, having suffered a similar setback in pre season last summer which kept him out of the first half of this season.

OPINION

This is wonderful news for the Newcastle supporters and is great to see. Lejeune’s mental fortitude is hugely impressive considering all he’s gone through over the past year. He obviously suffered that incredible setback in pre season which meant that he missed much of the season, but once he was back in the team he looked as good as he’s ever been. He’s an excellent centre back who brings a lot to this Newcastle side with his anticipation and his passing ability out from the back. He will no doubt be an integral part of Rafael Benitez’s team once he’s back to full fitness, because he’s too good not to be. But to see him back kicking a ball is phenomenal at this early stage of his recovery. This is a hugely exciting fitness update from the French star and it tells you all you need to know about the wonderful progress he’s making. Now the fans will have a happy wait until the next significant milestone in the defender’s recovery.
