In these early, tentative stages of the transfer window, it can often feel as if there are an awful lot more questions than answers.

As teams dust themselves down after another season and try and evaluate who and what they need in the market, there can be a whole host of variables swirling around to muddy the waters and cause all-round confusion.

Take the striking situation at Newcastle United.

Salomon Rondon has, over the course of the last season, established himself as a firm favourite on Tyneside.

With 12 goals and seven assists, not to mention an amicable personality and a level head, it is easy to see why.

The catch is, of course, that he is only on loan from West Brom, and he will be returning to the Hawthorns in the very near future if a permanent deal cannot be struck between the two sides.

That in itself is complicated enough, but as reported by the Daily Mail, Wolves are also said to be keen on the Venezuelan.

There is, therefore, the very real possibility that Newcastle might lose out on Rondon this summer.

As such, a contingency plan seems like a necessity, and it appeared as if the Magpies had one in the form of Chelsea forward Tammy Abraham.

According to the Northern Echo, Abraham was being mooted as a possible addition this summer after his 26 goal heroics for Aston Villa this season.

Now, however, it looks as if there has been a monumental spanner thrown in the works, with the Sun reporting that the Blues will not allow the 6’2″ colossus [Transfermarkt] to leave Stamford Bridge if their upcoming transfer ban is upheld.

Maybe the Magpies need to have a bit of a rethink when it comes to covering their backs this summer.
