COMMENTARY

Many Newcastle United fans were fuming on social media after the Daily Mail reported that the Magpies were reluctant to pay West Bromwich Albion over £12million to sign Salomon Rondon in the summer. The national newspaper claimed that while the Magpies are willing to pay a decent fee to welcome a new forward in the summer, they want one with a decent resale value. This desire to focus on the potential resale when looking at getting a new attacker, will give them doubts whether Rondon is for them, as he turns 30-years-old in September, and him being that old will see his value gradually go down in the coming seasons. Yet Magpies fans couldn’t help but point out £12million would be an absolute bargain price to pay for Rondon, and this suggests they thought their club were undervaluing him in today’s transfer market. Just as one Magpies fan pointed out Rondon has practically made millions for Rafa Benitez’s side this season as by regularly scoring goals for the side while on loan, he has effectively secured their Premier League status for another season.
