COMMENTARY
Many Newcastle United fans were left in awe of Matt Ritchie when witnessing him face Arsenal despite their side suffering a 2-0 loss. The 29-year-old midfielder regularly got back to help his side defend and as a result had several singing his praises. There was a very noticeable highlight for Ritchie during the game as he managed to pull off a goal line clearance to stop the Gunners going 2-0 up. As one Magpies fan said below it was as if Ritchie was saving his side with his last-ditch clearance, and it’s a shame his efforts still saw Rafa Benitez’s team get no points. While several were impressed with Ritchie mostly for his defensive work, it has to be pointed his passing against the Gunners was frustrating to watch. The 29-year-old regularly picked the wrong option to pass to and for some reason always tended to avoid giving the ball to Miguel Almiron. It’s not clear why this was the case, but it was starting to look odd that he never gave his Paraguayan teammate the ball.
