Newcastle United fans know that their side face a tough task overcoming Arsenal on Monday, and it seems they were not feeling confident with Rafa Benitez deciding to start midfielder Mohamed Diame. In fact many Magpies supporters were left fuming by this Benitez decision after the club’s official Twitter account tweeted the line up, with one even calling for the manager’s head. While that fan was hopefully going over-the-top just to make his point known, as Benitez is vital to the Magpies, it did showcase how he really wasn’t keen on seeing the midfielder start. It wasn’t a shock to see fans rage over the 31-year-old playing as he has been a liability at times this season. Also you feel the anger towards Diame was turned up a notch more than usual as clearly some wanted to see midfielder Jonjo Shelvey start the clash. The Magpies sit 14th in the table and seem comfortably clear of the relegation zone, so even if they do suffer a defeat to the Gunners, alarm bells around St James Park won’t ring. However while Magpies fans may accept losing to a talented in-form side like Arsenal, they will still demand a good performance. Maybe Diame, who one supporter called terrible, will prove he is no April Fool’s joke by helping side defy the odds.
