Musician James Bay sent Newcastle United attacker Ayoze Perez a message on Instagram to congratulate the player on his performance in the 1-0 win over Leicester City.

Perez scored the only goal of the game on Friday to earn his side the win over the Foxes and took to his personal Instagram to reveal how happy he was to be on the scoresheet and thank supporters for the atmosphere they created.

“Massive win today!” wrote the attacker.

“Happy for the team and for the fans! Your support was amazing! It seems we were playing in St. James’! Soooo happy with the goal too!”

This message promoted Bay to reveal his happiness, via his Instagram account, over Perez’s goal as he claimed “what a moment” before directly praising the Spaniard.

“Congrats Ayoze, what a moment! Come on lads!!” wrote Bay.

OPINION

It seems Bay was so thrilled by Perez’s performance, he couldn’t help but heap praise on the 25-year-old. The singer-songwriter is unlikely the only Magpies fan overjoyed by Perez’s latest display as he was clinical in front of goal, and took his chance beautifully. Perez scored with a header as he converted Matt Ritchie’s cross and that goal was all Rafa Benitez’s side needed on Friday. While the 25-year-old made it look simply, it was far from an easy chance to convert as the attacker had to skilfully guide the ball low enough into the corner to beat a stretching Kasper Schmeichel. Perez has now scored seven league goals this season, and hopefully will add to his tally before the campaign ends. The 25-year-old always seems to be among the goals in the final weeks of the season, he certainly was last year, and just needs to work on being more consistent in front of goal throughout a whole campaign.
