Jeff Stelling heaped praise on Newcastle United attacker Ayoze Perez for his display in the 1-0 victory over Leicester City on Friday.

The Sky Sports presenter revealed that the Magpies cannot afford to lose the 25-year-old anytime soon as he was exceptional against the Foxes.

“There is talk, I mean he has been talking about the possibly of going to play in Spain and they can’t afford to lose him,” said Stelling on Sky Sports News (Saturday April 13th, 12:05).

“It wasn’t just the goal last night, he was exceptional.”

Clinton Morrison then raved about Perez’s ability, echoing Stelling’s thoughts, before the Sky Sports presenter drooled over the amount the Magpies paid to sign the attacker.

“He cost one and a half million..what an absolute steal,” added Stelling.

OPINION

It seems Perez has a new member of his fan club after Friday night as Stelling was in awe of the player’s latest performance. The presenter was impressed by how little the Magpies paid to sign Perez from Tenerife in 2014, and there’s few who’d argue with that opinion. While Perez can often be Marmite amongst the Magpies faithful, there can’t be anyone who doesn’t believe the club have got value for their money out their original investment in the player. The 25-year-old has played 191 times for the Magpies and has been the club’s hero on many occasions. The only reason why Perez isn’t frequently sung about by Magpies fans and actually gets a lot of stick, is due to how inconsistent he is. When you consider that Perez has the skillset to wow on a regular basis in the Premier League, you do feel he is capable of more if he just regularly delivered the goods.
