Many Newcastle United fans were likely bouncing after their side beat Leicester City 1-0 on Friday and their club’s victory has only since got sweeter.
This is because pundits left,right and centre have come out of the woodwork to heap praise on the Magpies for a very impressive result against an in-form Leicester.
Yet while Magpies supporters will like any praise that comes their club’s way, they will surely love Gary Lineker’s verdict on the 1-on win over the Foxes.
“They got Rafa-ed in many ways, he has done a great job again and Ayoze Perez was the match winner,” said Lineker on BBC One’s Match of the Day (23:53, Saturday April 13th).
The fact that Lineker highlighted how Rafa Benitez basically out manoeuvred Brendan Rodgers to get a victory, will be warmly welcomed as it shows the Magpies boss getting the praise he deserves.
The Spanish boss has once again worked wonders to make his side safe in the Premier League for another season, and while his players need to deliver the goods to get results, it’s fair to say his tactics have been worth their weight in gold.
Benitez was often criticised at times this season when the Magpies were facing top-six sides due to his defensive tactics, but they have paid off with hindsight.
Many Magpies supporter will also love Lineker heaping praise on their side for their latest win, as his love for The Foxes is known.
It says so much that the presenter was able to hold his hands up regarding his former side and effectively say the better side won and that he could have no qualms about it.
