The future of Newcastle United boss Rafa Benitez has been an ongoing saga for the majority of this season, and it is yet to be resolved.

On Thursday, French newspaper L’Equipe linked the manager with being interested in taking up a Ligue 1 post and that he had joined an agency in France in order to help him land a job.

With his future currently up in the air, this is the last thing that fans would be wanting to hear, and rightly so. However, Benitez himself seemingly poured cold water over these reports by confirming that there is absolutely no truth in them whatsoever.

“No,” he said when asked about the links, as relayed by Chronicle reporter Lee Ryder on Twitter.

“On March 6 I was here having lunch and I left at 7 in the evening.”

All Newcastle fans will surely be doing cartwheels after this confirmation. To lose the manager that helped them secure promotion from the Championship and then finish in tenth place in the Premier League upon their return would be an absolute travesty.

Obviously the club now need to focus on securing his future on Tyneside, but the supporters can now rest easy that Benitez’ next destination is not going to be Ligue 1.

With his contract running out this summer, Newcastle will have to promise Benitez some stellar signings in order to keep him at the club – that is for sure. He will not want to suffer like he has done in the last couple of seasons on just bare trimmings.

Benitez is the one that has managed to turn Newcastle’s luck around after an abysmal start to the campaign. They are now at least one more win away from securing safety, a prospect that did not seem too realistic at the end of last year.
