OPINION

Newcastle United were linked by the Daily Star with a fanciful move for Premier League trio Dwight McNeil, Ryan Fraser and David Brooks on Tuesday, and the Magpies supporters are clearly less than convinced with the legitimacy of the rumour. You can’t blame them, really. The grand total to bring in these three players would likely in the region of £60million, a sum that is far beyond what Newcastle tend to spend. Plus, it’s hugely unlikely that were Rafael Benitez to get that sort of cash that he would spend it all in one area of the pitch. All three are fantastic Premier League performers who are having phenomenal seasons. In the case of McNeil and Brooks they are both incredibly young and would therefore fit with Mike Ashley’s transfer policy. Even Fraser, at 25, would. On paper they are exactly the type of players that Newcastle should be looking to attract, but it’s just not realistic. Were they to leave their current clubs they would go to a top six side, there’s no doubt about that. They certainly wouldn’t be making what is, at this point, a sideways move to St James’ Park.

Nothing but Newcastle has rounded up some of the best tweets below.
