Sky Sports pundit Don Hutchinson has made a cheeky jibe against Newcastle United, suggesting that watching them play in London is a “waste of time” because they always lose.

The Magpies fell to a 2-0 defeat to Arsenal on Monday night, making it 18 losses in their last 24 visits to the capital.

And former Sunderland man and regular Sky pundit Hutchinson was quick to make a remark about the lacklustre performance.

Taking to Twitter after BT Sport presenter Lynsey Hipgrave was left bemoaning the Magpies’ defeat, he said: “Waste of time watching Newcastle play in London. Never win!”

OPINION

Newcastle United’s record in the capital is a little bizarre, it has to be said. Every time the make the long trip south, they must be concerned as to how it’s going to turn out, and time after time those fears are justified. Yet another loss compounded the Toon Army’s Big Smoke misery on Monday night, but the root of their issues might prove to be a very simple one; teams in London are good. It might sound daft, but the Magpies have a 25% win ratio in the capital over the past few years. When you consider that those visits have been against the Arsenals, Tottenhams, Chelseas, and West Hams of this world, you start to see why they might struggle. Not every side in London is that formidable, but there are enough clubs who you would justifiably expect Newcastle to lose to in the capital to make their apparent yips look like nothing more than the form book holding true.
