The whole circus surrounding the managerial role at Newcastle United does not look like it is going to come to an end any time soon.

Many United fans are no doubt waiting patiently for Rafa Benitez to extend his stay at St James’ Park, but he is yet to be offered a new deal to allow him to do that.

Meanwhile, there are some who have thrown their hat into the ring in case the Spaniard does end up leaving, and one of those people is current Lyon boss Bruno Génésio, who is set to depart the Ligue 1 outfit at the end of the season.

According to the Chronicle, the 52-year-old would jump at the chance to take charge of the Magpies if the opportunity came up to do so – and he is someone that owner Mike Ashley would surely love to hire.

The report says that he is excellent in working with younger players and helping develop Academy talent, something which they claim would work well for the Sports Direct tycoon and his vision.

At the moment, the amount of young players coming through the Academy system is very low, with hardly any of the first team progressing through the ranks. This is something that Ashley would want to change, and with a manager like Genesio, that is something that could become a reality.

The fact that he is eager to manage a club like Newcastle should also be very promising for the owner, but developing the young talent is the one thing that sets him apart from the likes of Jorge Jesus, who is also keen to manage in the Premier League.

It remains to be seen whether the supporters would initially supportive of an appointment like Genesio, but if Benitez were to head for the exit door, Ashley would surely love to hire the Frenchman.
