Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has sent a message to the team’s players after the Magpies secured a fantastic 1-0 win over Leicester City on Friday night.
The three points ensured Premier League safety for Rafael Benitez’s side, and Shearer was quick to compliment the Newcastle players in a jubilant message after the game.
“Who’s that team we call United, Who’s that team we all adore, Oh, we play in Black and White,” he wrote on his personal Twitter account.
“Great result Newcastle. Well done lads,” he finished.

Shearer is right to salute what was a terrific performance from Benitez’s team at the King Power Stadium. The Magpies were the better side from start to finish and throughly deserved the three points they so gleefully claimed. Ayoze Perez got the winning goal with a tremendous header, but it was a throughly dominant team performance from Newcastle. Leicester came into the game in fantastic form under Brendan Rodgers, but Benitez’s side proved to be a puzzle they couldn’t figure out. The club’s supporters will be delighted that Premier League safety has been assured for another season, a development which will hopefully spark a fruitful resolution in the manager’s contract talks. This was another game that proved the importance of Benitez to the Newcastle cause, and it would be bizarre – even by the Magpies’ standards – if the club allowed him to walk away at the end of the season. Let’s hope it gets sorted quickly.
