Newcastle United are willing to sell defender Achraf Lazaar for £2 million, according to Football Insider.

The reputable football site reports that the Magpies are keen to sell to a club who are set on meeting their £2 million valuation of the 27-year-old, who is currently out on loan at Championship side Sheffield Wednesday.

The report adds that they are willing to offload him – even at a loss – seeing as he has only made three FA Cup appearances in total for United since joining them from Palermo in 2016.

OPINION

To be honest, Rafa Benitez would probably sell Lazaar at any price if it would mean that he would be free of him on a permanent basis. He has been of no use to the manager in recent times and a permanent switch away from Newcastle would benefit everyone involved. The fact that he was not even considered to fill in for the left-back role when Paul Dummett was injured for a while a few months ago shows just how little Benitez thinks of him. If he cannot even be considered as cover, then he is essentially useless to everyone at the club. There is a possibility that Sheffield Wednesday may want to sign him permanently, and if they do, that would certainly be the easy way out for Newcastle. Lazaar may have potential, but that does not look like it is going to be unleashed in the Premier League any time soon.
