Newcastle United want to sign Salomon Rondon, Jake Livermore and Kieran Gibbs from West Brom, according to TeamTalk.

The news outlet claims that the Magpies are ready to use Dwight Gayle and Jacob Murphy, both currently on loan at The Hawthorns, as bait as they try to sign up the Albion trio.

It is understood that managerless West Brom would only consider a deal with Newcastle if they fail to win promotion from the Championship this season.

OPINION

West Brom’s stance is not going to be very clear until the end of the season when they know what division they will be playing in next season. They also need to know who their next manager is because the Baggies are yet to replace Darren Moore despite sacking him a month ago. Rondon would definitely be a good signing for Newcastle, as would left-back Kieran Gibbs. The former Arsenal defender has played well for the Baggies in the Championship and wasn’t terrible when they were relegated last season either. Livermore, however, is someone that the Magpies should definitely avoid as the England international is no better than what Rafa Benitez already has in his squad. The ex-Tottenham midfielder has nothing that makes him stand-out against the likes of Jonjo Shelvey, Ki Sung-Yueng or Sean Longstaff. Shelvey might leave St James’ Park in the summer, but Newcastle need to sign an upgrade, not someone worse, as a replacement.
