Newcastle United’s entire fanbase will surely get goosebumps over a report which claims that the club is preparing a new deal for Rafa Benitez.

The Mirror has reported that a three-year contract worth £15million is being readied for the 58-year-old, whose current agreement is set to expire at the end of this season.

It is understood that Benitez has been told that Newcastle want him to sign a new deal and the Spaniard is also said to be in negotiations with Mike Ashley’s representatives about what kind of money needs to be spent in the summer to take the squad to the next level.

Benitez has worked wonders at St James’ Park and this latest update on the ex-Liverpool manager’s contract situation on Tyneside is surely a huge positive for Newcastle supporters.

The Toon Army undoubtedly want to see Benitez extend his stay at St James’ Park.

He took the North-East club from the Championship and has solidified their spot in the Premier League despite possessing a squad that many would agree is at a standard that some top-end second-tier clubs are at.

Signing Miguel Almiron for a club-record fee of around £20million was not only a smart move by Ashley to improve the playing squad, but giving Benitez what he wanted also increased the chances of him penning a new deal.

And it seems that with a new £5million-a-year deal now on the cards for Benitez, Newcastle’s top-brass are increasingly confident that the Spaniard will put pen to paper on a new contract.

Of course, time will tell whether or not Benitez does actually sign a new deal.

But the Mirror’s claim that clubs from around Europe might make their moves for the manager in the coming weeks may well have sparked the Magpies into life in regards to his future.
