Newcastle United are lining up Jurgen Klinsmann as a replacement for Rafa Benitez, according to France Football.

The French news outlet reports on their website that the Magpies are lining up the ex-United States boss to take the Newcastle hotseat in case their current boss leaves, with the likes of Everton also looking at him to take charge.

The report adds that Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin are also wanting to snap up the signature of Klinsmann, who used to be in charge of the German national team.

OPINION

Benitez’ future does not look like it is going to be resolved anytime soon, does it? He obviously wants the funds to strengthen in the summer, but with an owner like Mike Ashley, that is not going to happen any time soon. That is going to leave him frustrated, right? Of course it would. That, however, means the likelihood of the Spaniard leaving at the end of the season is very high, which means that the club are no doubt casting one eye over potential replacements. Klinsmann is a very decent option if this report is accurate, he enjoyed a good spell with Germany in the past, and many fans would not mind if it was him to step into the hotseat and take Benitez’ place. That, nevertheless, is not an ideal scenario for the supporters. They want Benitez to stay, and most of them must be questioning why the club are not giving their manager what he wants.
