Newcastle United were left without any hot water in their dressing room after their defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Monday night, according to journalist Lee Ryder.

The Chronicle’s chief Newcastle reporter claims on his personal Twitter account that the Magpies players were left facing the prospect of cold showers as their night went from bad to worse after a fault hit the Emirates’ system, with the Gunners saying that the same problem affected their side.

Newcastle were defeated quite comfortably in north London, Aaron Ramsey and Alexandre Lacazette finding the back of the net to leave Rafael Benitez’s side with just one win against Arsenal since 2010.

Opinion

Sometimes there is little better than a steaming hot shower to wash away a bad day at the office so you can imagine that the Newcastle players were not best pleased with how things turned out on Monday. There was a lot left to be desired from their performance out on the Emirates Stadium pitch and with a journey back up to Tyneside, they would have been hoping to feel a little fresher when they left. Whether it really was gremlins in the system or some cheeky Arsenal staff turning off their hot water, only those involved will know, but it was definitely not how the Magpies’ squad wanted their day to finish. You can be sure when the Gunners go to visit St James’ Park next there will be a couple of the players looking to get their own back and urging the staff to do something in the away dressing room. After all, football can be a game of small margins and any sort of advantage, be that physically or mentally, could seal you the win.
