OPINION

The future of Newcastle United attacker Ayoze Perez has become an increasing source of consternation for the club’s supporters, and the latest reports surrounding the Spaniard won’t have helped one bit.

The Chronicle claimed on Tuesday that at least three La Liga clubs have registered an interest in the 25-year-old and are all expected to bid for him this summer.

That’s the last thing the Toon Army will want to hear, and they’ll surely be running for cover as a result. Perez has emerged as arguably the team’s most important player since the turn of the year, so to potentially lose him would be a big blow to the Magpies.

However, it does seem as if all the signs are pointing towards him departing in a few month’s time. That’s because Perez wants to see a bit of ambition from the club, something which is in short supply under tyrannical owner Mike Ashley.

The Chronicle’s report doesn’t reveal who the Spanish clubs are who are interested in Perez, but the lure of his homeland would doubtless be enough to tempt him. Besides, there’s a decent chance that at least one of the three La Liga clubs will be a pretty decent side.

So Perez may well have the opportunity to swap the stagnant Magpies for an upper level La Liga side this summer. With those being his two options, who could blame him for choosing the latter?

That’s not what any Newcastle fan will want, of course, but this interest in the player only intensifies the speculation surrounding the Spaniard’s potential departure. Watch this space, Magpies supporters.
