OPINION
You have to feel for Florian Lejeune. No sooner has he come back from a serious ligament injury, then he suffers another horrendous knock to the other knee. The Frenchman was stretchered off during Newcastle United’s 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace yesterday, and the belief, as reported by reliable journalist Luke Edwards on Twitter, is that he could face another lengthy spell on the sidelines after this latest incident. That’s such a shame for a player who has looked like such a classy proposition for Newcastle in the centre of defence this season, and the team will surely suffer for not having him in it. As part of that defensive trio alongside Fabian Schar and Jamaal Lascelles, he brings a sense of authoritative calm, and manages to get the best out of those around him as well. You never like to see a player pick up an injury like this one, and the only hope will be that it doesn’t look as bad as it is. That appears to be a slim hope, however, and on the basis of initial suggestions, you would be amazed if he played again this season. Here’s hoping he comes back even stronger next year from this latest injury blow. However for now Edward’s update just make some Newcastle fans despair as they’re just focused on this season.
Understand Lejeune has suffered serious damage to cruciate ligament and faces another lengthy spell on the sidelines. Tough luck on him and completes a miserable day for #NUFC

Absolute gutter that. At least he won’t be sold in the summer now though.

Dreadful news. Wishing him a swift recovery. He clearly worked very hard to get back in the game after his last injury.
