Newcastle have been handed a big boost ahead of Saturday’s clash with Brighton with both Isaac Hayden and Fabian Schar returning to training.

The defensive duo both limped off the pitch during their 3-1 victory over Southampton with injuries and were minor doubts for the match at the AMEX Stadium.

Hayden and Schar have been key figures in a Newcastle side that has been in the top four form guide since January, and were confirmed on the club’s Twitter account to have made a swift recovery.

The absence of the key pair would have been a bitter pill for Newcastle to swallow, especially after it was announced that Miguel Almiron will miss the rest of the season after picking up an injury in the same match against Southampton.

OPINION

This news will be met with great happiness amongst Newcastle fans. Both have been influential to the rise in form and have excelled in keeping it tight at the back while their attacking team-mates have taken care of the rest. Fabian Schar has been incredible at the back this season, the Swiss International has also chipped in with his fair share of goals from defence, including a rocket against Burnley. Isaac Hayden has also become increasingly important in holding midfield, he has had to step up and be counted after Sean Longstaff’s injury and the confusing Jonjo Shelvey who has been disappointing to say the least. Players will be competing for places in next seasons plans and these two injuries would have opened the door to other squad members to impress Benitez ahead of the summer. If Newcastle want to keep the momentum till the end of the season, Hayden and Schar will definitely be two of the first names on the team sheet.
