Newcastle United could be set for a £15million-plus windfall from the potential sale of midfielder Isaac Hayden, according to The Chronicle.

The newspaper claims that the 24-year-old could be part of a central midfield exodus that may include Jack Colback and Jonjo Shelvey this summer.

Hayden has a well documented desire to leave the Magpies, as he revealed to the Shields Gazette last July, but his departure could at least provide manager Rafael Benitez with a boost to his transfer funds.

The player’s performances since he came into the side at the turn of the year have now likely raised his potential price tag to at least £15million.

OPINION

It’s a shame that Hayden will likely leave Newcastle at some point in the future because he has come on leaps and bounds this season. He is a crucial element of Benitez’s team and it’s hard to picture a Magpies midfield without him at this point. However, he wants to leave for personal reasons. He’s long wanted to move down south to be closer to his family and that does come before anything else at the end of the day. He has a young daughter and he wants to be near to her, which is obviously hugely understandable. So Newcastle should, by all rights, let him have his wish this summer. With that said, the best thing they can do, then, is to try and secure as big a transfer fee as possible for him. Luckily his recent form has made him a much more attractive signing for other teams. A good Premier League midfielder costs at least £15million these days so that’s what the club should be looking to get. If they can secure that amount then it will be a welcome resolution for all parties.
