Newcastle United midfielder Isaac Hayden is set for an assessment at the club’s Benton headquarters, according to The Chronicle.

The newspaper claims that the 6ft 1in Englishman [Source: Transfermarkt] will be assessed to find out if he’s fit enough to face Crystal Palace on Saturday.

It emerged, after what was a disappointing display against Arsenal on Monday, that the 24-year-old had been playing through a hip injury.

The players was eventually replaced in the second half and now faces a fight to be fit to face the Eagles.

OPINION

It says it all about the progress that Hayden has made over the past few months that this injury is something that is so worrying for the Newcastle supporters. He has become indispensable to manager Rafael Benitez since the turn of the year and is one of the first names on the team sheet at the moment. However, he might not be fit enough to play against Palace on Saturday. Benitez will surely be bearing in mind that Hayden was playing through injury on Monday and that it only worsened the problem. If he starts the former Arsenal man on Saturday then he risks him being out for even longer – a worrying thought considering star midfielder Sean Longstaff is currently sidelined at the moment as well. Hopefully, though, Hayden comes through his assessment this week, takes it easy during training, and is fully fit and ready to go against Roy Hodgson’s side.
