Ian Wright heaped praise on Newcastle attacker Ayoze Perez after his performance in the 1-0 win against Leicester City.

The pundit shared that he thought the 25-year-old was magnificent against Everton when he last watched him and shared that he thought the Spaniard was a real nuisance against the Foxes on Friday.

Wright highlighted Perez’s goal by pointing out it was a brilliant header in his opinion and also credited Matt Ritchie for his part in carving out the chance.

“Ayoze Perez, I watched him against Everton and he was magnificent that day, and he was a real nuisance for them today,” said Wright on BBC One’s Match of the Day (Saturday April 13th, 11:53am).

“It was brilliant play from Matt Ritchie, who has turned into a left-back, but that run across the near and that header was brilliant.”

OPINION

It’s a good week to be Perez as you feel pundits are going to continue to drape praise over him after his display against Leicester. The 25-year-old has often found himself criticised by pundits and a large number of Magpies supporters this season, so it must be very rewarding to hear your praises sung. Perez has often been slammed this season due to his inconsistent form just becoming too frustrating to handle. The attacker is clearly a talented player, just see his display against Leicester, but at times he goes missing during a match. Last season Perez ended his campaign in good form with a flurry of goals and it wouldn’t really be a surprise if that’s the case once again. While the 25-year-old will once again get plaudits if that happens, you just hope that once again it isn’t a brief improvement in form, only for him to have a hit and miss start to his 2019/20 campaign.
