On-loan Newcastle United winger Rolando Aarons is expected to return to training for Sheffield Wednesday on Friday.

The 23-year-old joined the Owls on a temporary basis in January, but has been sidelined for the last two matches after sustaining an ankle injury during the warm up prior to the game against Stoke at the end of March.

Wednesday boss Steve Bruce said that the club will see how Aarons gets on during training, as it would be his first session in just under two weeks.

“He is going to try and train today but that will be his first time in two weeks, two and a half week so we will see how he is,” he said, as quoted by the Sheffield Star.

OPINION

Losing Aarons was no doubt a major blow for Bruce as he played vital part in the run of games before the injury was sustained. However, the fact that he is expected to return to training with the Championship side on Friday (12 April) is hugely encouraging for the manager, especially now that we are approaching the final stretch of the season. Bruce could not put a timescale on Aarons’ return a few weeks ago after the Stoke game, something which would have been rather worrying, but that does not seem to be the case now. If all goes well in training, Aarons will have the perfect opportunity to impress his loan club and hopefully get signed on a permanent deal. That would be the ideal scenario for him at the end of the season, as he is definitely not going to be a part of Rafa Benitez’ plans any time soon.
