Newcastle United could strike gold by signing Blackburn Rovers midfield enforcer Lewis Travis as he keeps going from strength to strength.

The 21-year-old broke into the Championship side’s first-team this season and has seized the opportunity to establish himself at Ewood Park.

Travis made a handful of appearance in the first-half of the season, appearing as a left-back, centre-midfielder and a right-back, but since Boxing Day he has regularly featured.

The Blackburn player has been mostly playing as a defensive midfielder, which isn’t the easiest role to play, and has been smashing it out the park.

Travis is an energetic presence who seems able to sense danger as well as play a nice pass that sets his side on the attack.

Giving that he is 21-years-old and getting better as he keeps picking up experience, then the Magpies would be foolish not to try to add him to their team.

The Sun reported in January that the Magpies had started tracking Travis after he caught their eye while playing for Blackburn against them in the FA Cup.

In fact the newspaper even made clear that Rafa Benitez in particularly was impressed by the player’s display against the Magpies and that he previously was at Anfield when Travis was in Liverpool’s academy learning his trade.

The 21-year-old was regularly used as a box-to-box midfielder or as right-back when in Liverpool’s academy and given that club’s reputation for churning out young talents, fair to say Travis probably has some useful tools in his locker.

So when you consider all of this, then the Magpies could really strike gold by signing the versatile Travis as he shows no signs of slowing down.
