This summer represents the final chance for Newcastle United to cash in on midfielder Jack Colback, who is currently on loan at Nottingham Forest.

This is the 29-year-old’s second loan spell at the City Ground and he has impressed immensely. He is a key man at Forest and is enjoying a terrific season for Martin O’Neill’s side.

His fine form in the Championship means that the Magpies should be able to get a decent fee for the Englishman, and it’s imperative that they do so this summer.

The Chronicle reported on Wednesday that Colback has another year on his contract at St James’ Park come the end of this campaign, but that the player himself doesn’t expect to play for the club ever again.

With just one year left – somehow he is still contracted to Newcastle for another year – Rafael Benitez, or whoever is in charge in the summer, must make getting a fee for Colback a priority come the end of the season.

It’s been a strange career for the Newcastle local lad. He made his name across Tyne & Wear at Sunderland, before making the controversial move to Tyneside.

His homecoming hasn’t gone how anyone expected, however, and his career at the club was essentially ended once Benitez came in. The Spaniard just doesn’t fancy him, which is all the more reason to move him on in a few months time.

Clearly Colback isn’t a part of the plan moving forward at St James’ Park, and therefore the club must focus on giving him the boot in the summer and getting as much as they can for him while they can get it.
