Sheffield Wednesday are currently sweating about the fitness of on-loan Newcastle United player Rolando Aarons.

The 23-year-old pulled out of Saturday’s starting line up to face Stoke during the warm up after experiencing some problems with his ankle, and he was replaced by George Boyd as a result.

Owls boss Steve Bruce has also admitted that he cannot put a timescale on Aarons’ return after the last minute absence.

“He rolled his ankle and was not comfortable on it. We thought he would be okay. He wanted to play. He went out in the warm up and was not comfortable at all,” he said, as quoted by the Sheffield Star.

“It was a reaction to yesterday (Friday) really. He came through that but was sore today and could not run it off. I don’t know about Rolando. I can’t put a timescale on it.”

OPINION

Losing Aarons to injury will no doubt be a major blow for Bruce. He has played a crucial part in the last run of games for Sheffield Wednesday, and the fact that the manager could not put a time scale on his return must be rather worrying for him. Bruce no doubt wants all of his players fit and raring to go in their bid to secure a play-off spot in the Championship, and losing Aarons is the last thing that he needs. Aarons may not have been a vital player for Newcastle in the past, but that does not mean that he cannot be that for Sheffield Wednesday. Fingers crossed that it was not anything serious, because if he is given the time to impress his loan club, he may just end up securing a permanent deal to escape his nightmare on Tyneside. Here is hoping that is the case.
