Newcastle United fans should be thrilled by the fact that the club could reportedly bid for Huddersfield midfielder Aaron Mooy in the summer.

The Northern Echo has reported on their website that the Magpies are considering a summer bid for the 28-year-old Australia international, who has impressed in the last few seasons at the John Smith’s Stadium.

It seems as though Huddersfield are going to be relegated this season though, and their drop to the Championship could be confirmed on Saturday if results go against them.

While it would be a sad day for the Terriers, it would surely open up the door for Newcastle to make an offer for Mooy that the Yorkshire side cannot refuse because they are set to be a Championship club next term.

Mooy has been brilliant for Huddersfield and is perhaps the only one of their players to really stand out in what has been a shambles of a campaign.

The former Manchester City midfielder has made 113 appearances for Huddersfield since joining them in 2016, scoring 10 goals and supplying 15 assists in the process.

He is good at set-pieces, he can score goals and has a wide range of passing, which means that he would be the perfect replacement for Jonjo Shelvey in the summer with the Echo claiming that he could be on his way out of St James’ Park.

If Rafa Benitez remains in charge after the end of this season then signing the £50,000-a-week [Spotrac] ace from Huddersfield would be a very clever thing to do.

It seems as though an offer is certainly on the cards anyway as we approach the final run-in of the Premier League season.
