Newcastle United have made contact with the representatives of teenage Hamburg starlet Josha Vagnoman, according to Bild.

The German outlet claims that the Magpies are joined in their interest in the 18-year-old German by Premier League rivals Crystal Palace and Championship side Brentford.

All three are thought to have made contact over the versatile youngster, who has played in both full back positions and on both wings this season.

However, he is currently stuck on the sidelines with an MCL injury.

OPINION

This is a potential signing that would fit in with the Newcastle way of doing things under Mike Ashley. The Sports Direct tycoon has always been keen on signing young players with high re-sale value and Vagnoman certainly fits that bill. The teenager has enjoyed somewhat of a breakthrough season for the German side, although his progress has stagnated somewhat due to his aforementioned MCL injury recently. Prior to that he had been a regular contributor for Hannes Wolf’s side. However, you don’t want to bring a young player in and then find out that they’re injury prone. That might be an exaggeration but it’s certainly something worth keeping an eye on. Vagnoman has talent, that goes without saying, but is it too early for him to be making the move to the Premier League? Perhaps this is a deal where Newcastle could sign him and then loan him back to Hamburg for a season.
