OPINION

Nobody at Newcastle United would question how talented Kenedy can be.

When they Brazilian arrived on Tyneside last January, he quickly established himself as a real fan favourite with a series of energetic, flamboyant performances that got fans off their seats and helped drag the Magpies out of a relegation battle.

Understandably, there was much excitement when it was announced that he would be returning for a second season with the Toon Army this campaign, but things haven’t quite worked out how they were expected to, and he has plummeted down the pecking order after a raft of infuriatingly underwhelming displays.

In a video posted to his Instagram on Tuesday, however, the attacker makes an absolute mockery of teammate Yoshinori Muto in training with an audacious piece of skill that sees him rainbow flick his way out of a tight situation, leaving the Japanese international wandering off in disbelief.

Ordinarily, that kind of candid footage would have fans drooling and singing a player’s praises, but more than anything, watching that video will probably just anger Newcastle fans.

It acts as a perfect piece of evidence as to just what Kenedy is capable of, and will have Geordies everywhere asking why he can’t replicate that kind of wizardry on a Saturday afternoon.

The Brazilian has everything he needs to be a top, top talent, and evidently he can turn it on when he feels like it, but every single time he has stepped onto the pitch this season, he has looked off the pace.

That has to change before the fans turn on him completely.
