Newcastle United attacker Joselu may be sold for £5million as part of a summer clear-out by Rafa Benitez, according to The People.

The national newspaper’s print edition (Sunday March 24th, page 48) states that the 28-year-old forward could face an exit from St James Park as Benitez will want a quicker and more physical target man to call upon.

The People report that Benitez will oversee a summer clear-out if he remains manager, with the Magpies determined to cut a number of surplus salaries from their £100million wage bill.

OPINION

It’s no surprise that Joselu, who earns £40,000-a-week (Source: Spotrac), could soon be packing his bags, but the idea the club think they could get £5million for him is a little hard to believe.  The Magpies signed the 28-year-old for £5million from Stoke City in 2017 (Source: BBC Sport) and his value has surely gone down. Joselu has struggled to impress ever since arriving at St James Park as he has only managed seven goals in 52 outings. The forward is a hard-worker and gives his all for his side but he has proven not to be good enough for the Premier League. While Magpies supporters will happily wave goodbye to Joselu in the summer, you do feel they should acknowledge that he always done his best. Also it does seem a positive sign that Benitez has an idea in what he is looking for in a replacement for Joselu as they should allow him to act quickly in the summer if he ends up signing a contract to stay.
