Newcastle United are expected to cash in on goalkeeper Freddie Woodman in the summer transfer window as the 22-year-old will enter the final 12 months of his contract at the end of the season, according to the Metro.

The newspaper claims that Celtic, Arsenal, Everton and Fulham are all in the hunt to sign the 6ft 2 (transfermarkt) colossus, who has only made three first team appearances for the Magpies this term.

It is understood that the London-born shot-stopper could be tempted by a return to the capital to join Arsenal as they eye up a replacement for Petr Cech.

OPINION

It is a shame that Newcastle might have to offload Woodman, but it is the right thing to do rather than risk him going for free when his contract expires at the end of the 2019/20 campaign. The England Under-21 international has a lot of potential and could be a very good signing for the clubs that are interested in him, but Celtic and Fulham are perhaps the only ones he might be able to get more football with. Woodman might want to leave St James’ Park due to his lack of first team football but with Bernd Leno at Arsenal and Jordan Pickford at Everton, he’s unlikely to become a number one there. Fulham might have the best opportunity for Woodman, who is said to be open to going to London. They will more than likely be a Championship club next term, but Woodman could do with a drop down just to establish himself somewhere and get a lot of game-time.
