If there’s one thing they love on Tyneside, it’s a proper goalscorer.

Look at the way Jackie Milburn and Alan Shearer are idolised, and even the manner in which Salomon Rondon has been taken straight into the hearts of the Geordie faithful, and you can see that above all else, the cherish the men who do the hardest job in football – putting the ball in the back of the net.

And if footage emerging of academy prospect Tyrique Bartlett is anything to go by, the Magpies could have a brand new goalscoring hero to be drooling over very soon.

The 19-year-old has been sidelined for a while through injury, but made his comeback recently and scored a brilliant goal against Wolves U23s on Saturday to really get pulses racing, as posted on United’s official Twitter.

Bartlett is the son of former Premier League hitman Shaun, and on the basis of his strike at the weekend, he could be just as eye-catching a player as his dad ever was.

The teenager plays an integral role in the build up to the move, playing a smart ball that sets his team on their way.

More impressive, however, is his intelligent movement and the desire that he shows to get himself into a dangerous area to apply to curling first time finish into the back of the net.

It might only be one goal, but the effort, precision, and reading of the game he shows to pull it off illustrates all the qualities he needs to continue the fine legacy of Geordie goalscorers.
