Newcastle might regret Sorensen loan deal

Another week, another game without an appearance for on loan Newcastle United starlet Elias Sorensen at Blackpool.

The Danish youth international is one of the most lauded young talents in the Magpies’ academy setup, and when he made the move to the seaside in January, there was genuine excitement that this could be the move he needs to kick on and become a really useful senior player.

Instead, he has played a grand total of 32 minutes during just one appearance for his new side, and Newcastle could be forgiven for wondering if they make the right choice.

There will no doubt have been a whole host of suitors for the 19-year-old who was in red hot form before the turn of the year, but the Magpies decided to allow him to go out to the League One outfit, and while that may have looked like a great opportunity on paper, it could end up being quite counterproductive.

It’s all well and good having the youngster playing for a third tier side, or at least it would be if he was actually getting a game.

Instead, the competition for places has meant that so far he has been surplus to requirements, and if he was just going to warm the bench, surely he’d be better doing so ion the north east where he could at least continue his fine development with the U23s.

Things may change and he may get his chance, but right now a frustrated Rafael Benitez may will be wishing he had sent him somewhere less ambitious with greater opportunities.
