Another half of football, another outstanding performance from Sean Longstaff. The Newcastle United midfielder has been exemplary since breaking into the side around the turn of the year, and it’s getting to the point where it’s hard to find the superlatives to describe his meteoric rise. Against Burnley in the first half of Tuesday night’s Premier League clash, the 21-year-old played out of his skin, spraying balls about with ease, breaking up play with authority, and showing the watching world exactly why the Toon Amry are up in arms about him. There is no reason why he cannot go on to become one of the finest young midfield talents in England, and the Geordies will just be hoping that he continues to pursue his journey at St. James’ Park. People talk about Declan Rice at West Ham, but Longstaff is looking every inch as impressive, and from the national side’s point of view, his explosion onto the scene is very exciting indeed. He isn’t a perfect player just yet, but rapidity with which he has progressed in his first couple of months in the top flight would suggest that he could go on to become one of the Premier talents in the league.
