Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez has received a major boost ahead of his side’s clash against Huddersfield next week, as confirmed on the club’s Twitter account.

The club have confirmed on the social media site that the Magpies mainstay Paul Dummett – who has made 15 appearances this season – is back in full training after sustaining a hamstring injury in the defeat to Manchester United last month.

The 27-year-old travelled with Newcastle to their training camp in Spain, which will last five days.

OPINION

The fact that Dummett is back in full training will surely excite Newcastle fans everywhere. Yes they signed Antonio Barreca as cover for the Welshman, but having the first choice even closer to a return must be music to the manager’s ears. Dummett has had his fair share of injury problems this season after being sidelined in November after being injured on international duty, and he then went on to get injured just two months later in what was a major blow for the team. Fingers crossed that he does not receive another setback from now until the end of the season, as he is a player who will be able to tighten up the defence admirably. Benitez will welcome Dummett back with open arms, but he will certainly be wrapped in cotton wool from now on after such a mishaped season. He is a fine player and will he surely make a difference in his club’s fight for survival.
