Newcastle United are interested in Sevilla midfielder Ibrahim Amadou, according to Mundo Deportivo.

The Spanish outlet reports on their website that the Magpies, along with fellow Premier League strugglers Fulham, are on the trail of the 25-year-old and want to snap him up after he impressed for the La Liga side against footballing giants Barcelona on Wednesday.

The report also states, however, that the French enforcer – who only signed from Ligue 1 side Lille in the summer – wants to remain at the club in order to play more regularly under manager Pablo Machin.

OPINION

Amadou has played 20 times in all competitons for Sevilla this term, which indicates that he is not necessarily a regular at his current club. However, he is not like other players who would seek a switch due to lack of game time – in fact, he is quite the opposite. He wants to stay in Spain in order to prove to Machin that he is worthy of a regular spot in the first team, and to be honest, that does make sense. That is all well and good, but what if his intentions backfire on him and he is left on the sidelines more regularly? He would then regret not moving to the Premier League while he had the chance, something which Newcastle want to do. They need to twist Sevilla’s arm in order to sign their talented midfielder, as it is clear that he is not going to leave without a fight. The faster Amadou realises that he may not be getting as many first team opportunities at Sevilla as he would have liked, the better.
