Sevilla midfielder Ibrahim Amadou is not interested in a move to Newcastle United this month, according to Foot Mercato.

The French outlet report on their website that along with the Magpies, Premier League rivals Fulham and Bundesliga side Stuttgart have asked about the midfield enforcer – however, all three clubs have now been handed an abrupt halt in their pursuit of the 25-year-old.

Amadou – who joined in the summer from Ligue 1 side Lille – and the La Liga club are not interested in a switch in this current transfer window.

OPINION

This is a shame, as Amadou would have been quite the signing for Newcastle this month. They have a number of injuries to their midfield, so swooping for Amadou would have been the perfect remedy to that. However, the player is not keen on leaving Sevilla this month, which will no doubt be a big blow to all of the clubs who were pursuing his services. His versatility allows him to operate at centre-back as well if need be, along with his preferred role in midfield. Despite the fact that Rafa Benitez has enough centre-backs at his disposal, this would have been a highly attractive trait for the Spaniard. Nevertheless, this update does not rule out a move for Amadou in the summer – it only rules out a move this month. Benitez should go back in again for the 6ft [Transfermarkt] ace at the end of the season, as his situation with Sevilla may well have changed by then.
