If there was ever a single most important transfer window for Newcastle United, it is safe to say that this would be it.

Boss Rafael Benitez is no doubt losing patience with the lack of signings coming through the doors at St James’ Park, and it would not be surprising if he came to the brink of his tether by the end of the season.

It is paramount that some players start getting brought onto the books – and one of those players should be QPR starlet Eberechi Eze, who operates as an attacking midfielder.

This is one of the three problem positions for Benitez, and it a role that has been targeted for serious reinforcements by Toon legend Mick Quinn in his Chronicle column.

A player who operates just behind the striker in a number ten role is just what is required to provide support to forward Salomon Rondon, who would undoubtedly score more goals if given the right service.

Eze is just the player to deliver that – which is why the Magpies must plot a raid on the 20-year-old ace as soon as possible.

His performances for the Championship outfit, with four goals and four assists in 28 outings, indicate that he is ready for the step up to the Premier League without no problems, which is mainly down to the fact that his speed is one of his best attributes.

He creates numerous opportunities for his teammates and is incredibly confident and assured in possession – so a move for him is practically a no-brainer.

Some may argue that he is rather young to deal with the responsibility of helping Newcastle avoid relegation this season, however, his displays indicate quite the opposite.

His workrate is astonishing and he is not afraid to get stuck in, so Benitez would surely be striking gold by unleashing a gem like Eze on his rivals.
