Ask the majority of Newcastle United fans who has been one of their most inconsistent players this season, and many will no doubt answer with Mo Diame.
The midfielder just cannot seem to make his mind up about how he wants to play each week.
However, Rafa Benitez does not seem to share the same view and Diame has racked up 21 Premier League appearances in the 2018/19 campaign.
That’s a high figure for someone who has been blowing hot and cold all season.
One player who they must consider to take his place is Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye.
Another player who likes to play hot and cold, Gueye has been performing relatively well alongside summer signing Andre Gomes at Goodison Park.
When Gueye is having a good day, he is unstoppable – and that is just the type of player the fans need to fill the shoes of Diame.
To be honest, all of Newcastle’s midfielders have not been up to scratch recently, and this is rather worrying in terms of surviving this season.
Losing Ki Sung-Yeung to the Asian Cup has no doubt had a negative effect on how the side operates in the middle of the park – but with the £45,000-a-week [Spotrac] player on the books, that would be brushed aside in an instant.
Just imagine how effective Gueye would be if he played alongside a hot talent like Ki? The combination of their passing ability would be a sight to behold.
Time is up for Diame – and Benitez must send the fans wild by signing Gueye this month.
