Newcastle United will make a decision on where Elias Sorensen will be sent on loan next week, according to the Chronicle.

The Danish youth international has scored 19 goals for the Magpies’ reserve sides so far this campaign, and a host of sides are looking to secure his services for the second half of the season.

Oxford United are the latest side to make an enquiry about the 19-year-old’s availably, with Blackpool, Hartlepool United and Gateshead also thought to be interested.

It is understood that a decision on his destination will be finalised in the coming days.

Sorensen is currently away on international duty.

OPINION

Sorensen is a hugely precocious talent, and he is ready to make the step up to regular senior football. After a blistering start to the campaign, it is no surprise that the Dane is attracting widespread attention, and the only real question will be what level the Magpies want to chuck him in at. A non-league role with local side Gateshead could be good, as it would allow him to keep his roots in the north east, and would provide a decent standard of physical football that could result in a play-off bid towards the end of the campaign. That being said, a move to League One Oxford United would be a huge challenge, and real assessment of just how far he can go in the professional game. It depends on how highly the Toon Army rate him, but surely there can’t be any harm in giving him a run in league football, and seeing just how special this young talent really is.
