Newcastle United have made reserve team captain Owen Bailey available for loan this month, according to the Chronicle.

The newspaper claims that the club are actively looking for a club for the 19-year-old, as they look to provide the youngster with some first team experience.

It is understood that a number of Football League clubs are being considered for Bailey’s next move after the teenager impressed in the first half of the season for the Magpies’ Under-23s side.

U23s manager Ben Dawson believes that Bailey is ready to take the next step in his development, with a temporary move away from the club viewed as ideal.

OPINION

This makes perfect sense for Newcastle. It’s always good to get these youngsters out on loan in order to continue their development and Bailey is someone who could certainly benefit from a spell away from St James’ Park. He’s looked good for the u23s this season in what’s been a successful first half of the campaign for Dawson’s side, and it seems like perfect timing for him to get some first team experience with a Football League side. You’d think at this stage of his career that it would be a League Two club that would snap him up, as you don’t want him being loaned out and then not playing if he’s somewhere higher up the Football League pyramid. When you play in a position as important as centre back it’s crucial that you receive first team football in order to further your understanding of the position so hopefully that is what Bailey will receive over the second half of the season.
