OPINION
Fabian Schar was definitely one of the Newcastle players who stood out in this 4-2 win. Overall, the team were not hugely impressive, but Schar certainly stood out. He was shifted into a defensive midfield role compared to his usual position of centre-back, but you could hardly tell that he was out of his preferred position. In fact, one fan thought he was so good in the role, they said he was better than Manchester City midfielder Fernandinho. Who knows, maybe Rafa Benitez will start playing Schar in this position more often? Another supporter picked him out as their man of the match, while one labelled him as “class”. Benitez now has more choices in the midfield after this impressive display from Schar, something which he never thought he might have at the moment due to Ki Sung-Yeung being away and Jonjo Shelvey being injured. Either way, it is difficult not to agree with these fans’ verdicts of their summer signing, as he was certainly one of the stand out players.
