Sky Sports presenter David Jones has called on Newcastle owner Mike Ashley to lower his asking price for the club, saying ‘It’s not rocket science.’

Ashley is insistent that he is trying to sell the Magpies to a new owner at the moment but his £300million asking price is proving prohibitive to getting a deal done.

Jones, who is regularly seen presenting match-day coverage on Sky Sports, has now delivered a dig towards Ashley on Twitter in his verdict on the situation.

OPINION

Considering the multitude of ridiculous comments which have been spouted by pundits and former players on social media in recent days, Jones’ verdict here is a breath of fresh air. It is clear to most that Ashley’s demands are putting up a huge barrier preventing the sale of Newcastle United, so why not call him out on it? Negotiations last year collapsed with Amanda Staveley and PCP Capital Partners in a big part due to Ashley, and the same looks likely to happen at some point this time round, with talks seemingly going nowhere with the interested parties. Ashley has a net worth well into the billions, so why does he not just lower his asking price by a few million? What is that money to him? He claims that he wants to sell the club but is showing no sign of actually wanting to do so. The situation is growing more frustrating by the day for the Toon Army, who are close to breaking point with the Sports Direct tycoon.
