Newcastle United transfer target Miguel Almiron is growing frustrated over a lack of progress in their attempts to sign him this month, according to the Chronicle.

The regional newspaper report that the Magpies have not made a fresh offer for the Atlanta United star since December when Steve Nickson flew out to the States for talks.

It is said that the Paraguay international is becoming irritated by the situation as he seeks a move to Europe, with Rafa Benitez resigning himself to not making a big-money signing this month.

It is said that Almiron’s agent Daniel Campos is set to fly out to Europe soon in an attempt to reignite a move for his client.

OPINION

It is no surprise to hear that Almiron is growing frustrated with a lack of progress on a move to Newcastle, with the Magpies previously looking like the club most likely to push hard to sign him. It is clear that there is interest from the club’s end, but owner Mike Ashley is surely unlikely to sanction a club-record deal when he is still looking to sell up. The total lack of activity since December reflects that, and it is slowly but surely looking as though Newcastle will miss out on the 24-year-old this month. There only saving grace at the moment is that no other club seems to be as keen as they are to sign Almiron, who may realise that the Magpies are his best option and lower his demands. Obviously there would still be the £25million demands from Atlanta to deal with, but that is Newcastle’s only hope at this point.
