Newcastle duo Achraf Lazaar and Rolando Aarons are set to join Championship side Sheffield Wednesday on loan, according to Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie.

Downie reports on his personal Twitter account that the left-back and winger are poised to join up with the Yorkshire club on temporary deals until the end of the season.

Both players have been frozen out on Tyneside in recent months, with neither making a single first-team appearance this season.

OPINION

This is a deadline day that has come out of the blue for Newcastle. Both Lazaar and Aarons have been frozen out on Tyneside under Rafa Benitez, so exits for either player were not off the cards, but there has been no previous mention of such a move taking place this month. It looks as though Wednesday have swooped at the very last-minute for the duo, who will be glad to be going somewhere they have a chance to play in the coming months. Lazaar has been on the fringes at Newcastle ever since their promotion from the Championship, with the Morocco international failing to impress Benitez at all. Aarons is another who has not managed to catch the Spaniard’s eye, with the young attacker even struggling on loan in the Czech Republic earlier this season. This is a good move for both players, who will hopefully get the chance to show what they can do in the second-tier, and potentially earn permanent moves when the summer rolls around.
