League One side Blackpool are expected to compete the loan singing of Newcastle United starlet Elias Sorensen in the coming days, according to the Blackpool Gazette.

The newspaper claims that Terry McPhillips’ side is set to be confirmed as a Tangerines player this week after arriving back in the country from Denmark U21s duty.

The 19-year-old has enjoyed a stellar campaign for Newcastle’s development team, bagging 19 goals and making a huge impression on Tyneside.

It now appears that the next stage of his development will take place at Blackpool.

OPINION

This is a bit of an interesting one. On the face of it this is a good move for Newcastle, Blackpool and Sorensen. The youngster needs first team football if he is to take another stride forward. He will get that for a Blackpool team that has struggled to put the ball in the back of the net this season. However, whether the Seaside club is the right environment for the teenager is a whole other question. Blackpool are a club with about as much internal turmoil as any in the country. The fans have been at open war with ownership for several years now, even boycotting games this term. To throw Sorensen in amongst that at his tender age might not be ideal for Newcastle. Plus, League One might be a bridge too far for Sorensen. Surely the safer option for the young Dane would be a temporary spell in League Two? He surely won’t have been short of offers from that division. Still, first team football will be good for him so we’ll see how this goes.
