COMMENTARY
Many Newcastle fans were livid with midfielder Jonjo Shelvey on Saturday with several condemning the 26-year-old for being lazy when playing against Watford. The Magpies were leading 1-0 for ages in the match against the Hornets at Vicarage Road but conceded late to see them only get one point from the match instead of three. After watching their side drop points when a win was in their clutches, it seems lots of supporters knew who to vent their fury at. Quite a few blame Shelvey’s laziness and switching off during the build-up to Watford scoring as the reason why their side had to settle for a draw. It’s easy to see why they came to that conclusion as the Hornets goalscorer Abdoulaye Doucouré was clearly meant to be marked by Shelvey but he left him completely in space and looked like he assumed Fabian Schar would cover for him. While it’s never nice to call someone a total disgrace, it’s hard to see what reason Shelvey had for abandoning his defensive duties.
