OPINION
It is a big surprise to see Jacob Murphy being lauded so widely by Newcastle fans at half-time against Everton, but the young winger deserves all the plaudits he is getting here. Murphy was a surprise starter for the Magpies against the Toffees, with Rafa Benitez opting for a three at the back with Murphy and Christian Atsu supporting Salomon Rondon up front. Much was made of the forward when he signed for a big fee from Norwich last summer, but he has been unable to live up to those expectations so far at St. James’ Park. Murphy once again started uncertainly on Wednesday but made a crucial contribution when he crossed for Rondon to turn home the opening goal. Newcastle fans certainly appreciated his contribution, with many flocking to Twitter to praise his pinpoint delivery. Hopefully this is the start of something special for Murphy, who needs a big season for the Magpies.
